How to build your restaurant menu

Add dishes, group them into sections, set choices like size and spice level, and switch off what you've run out of.

The Menu builder is where you organise your dishes, set the choices customers make and mark things as sold out. You can change your menu any time, in seconds.

Steps

  1. Open Products and press Add Menu Item.
  2. Type the dish name, price and a short description.
  3. Pick the menu section it belongs in. Allow special instructions if customers may ask for changes.
  4. Add dish labels, like vegetarian, allergens and spice level, so customers know what they're ordering. Press Add Menu Item to save.
  5. Open Menu builder, then the Sections tab. Press New section to create a heading and choose which dishes go in it. Customers see sections in the order you list them.
  6. To show a section only at certain times, like breakfast from seven to eleven, set its hours on the section.
  7. Open the Customizations tab and press New group to create choices like size, spice level and extras, with their own prices. Attach each group to the dishes it applies to.
  8. When you run out of something, open the Sold out tab and switch the dish off. Switch it back on when it returns.

Good to know

  • Customers can't order a dish that is switched off.
  • Kitchen staff can use the Sold out tab too, so the person at the stove can switch a dish off.
  • Menu builder is only available to restaurant stores.
  • Put every dish in a section, or customers may not find it on the menu.
